ECCU PRIVACY NOTICE
Evangelical Christian Credit Union (ECCU) is a member-owned financial cooperative committed to service excellence. You joined ECCU with the expectation that we would provide financial products and services that help you achieve your financial goals. Trust is fundamental to our relationship. We believe protecting your personal information is as important as safeguarding your money. While we are required by law to provide you with this privacy notice, you can be confident that the privacy of our members' information has always been a top concern of ECCU.
INFORMATION WE COLLECT ABOUT YOU
We collect nonpublic personal information about you from the following sources:
- Information we receive from you on membership, account, and loan applications and other forms such as your name, address, e-mail address, birth date, income, and Social Security number.
- Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates, or others such as your account balance, credit card usage, payment history, or parties to the transaction.
- Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency such as your credit history and creditworthiness.
- Information obtained when verifying the information you provide on an application or other form, such as your payment history, your transactions, and income. This information may be obtained from your current or past employers or from other institutions where you conduct financial transactions.
- Information obtained from census data providers, marketing researchers, and public records such as your income, home ownership, and marital status.
INFORMATION WE SHARE ABOUT YOU
Our commitment to providing you with quality products and services may necessitate that we share information about you to complete your transactions and provide you with certain financial opportunities. We may disclose, to the extent necessary, the information we collect, as described below, to companies that provide marketing or other services on our behalf.
- We share information about you with third parties that assist us with conducting our business operations, completing transactions on your behalf, following your instructions as you authorize, and protecting the security of our financial records. These third parties may include data processing vendors, and check and statement printing companies.
- We may also share information about you with companies that perform marketing and other business or professional services on our behalf such as companies that perform mailing services or customer surveys. We have written agreements with these companies that contain confidentiality provisions to protect member information.
- We disclose information about you to consumer and credit reporting agencies in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
- We may also share information about you with any other affiliate or nonaffiliated third party, as permitted or required by law or with your consent.
- We may also share information about you with government agencies, as required or permitted by law. For example, customer information may be disclosed in connection with a subpoena or similar legal process, or that of a fraud investigation. You may have other privacy protections under state laws with regard to our information practices, and we will comply with all applicable laws.
To provide you with competitive products and services may require that we share information about you with our affiliate, Ministry Partner Investment Corporation (MPIC), which provides financial investment services. Our affiliate meets the same stringent requirements to protect your privacy as the credit union.
To protect our members' privacy, we only work with companies that agree to maintain strong confidentiality protections and limit the use of the information we provide. We do not permit these companies to sell or give to other third parties the information we provide to them.
If you terminate your membership with ECCU, we will not share information we have collected about you, except as permitted or required by law.
HOW WE PROTECT YOUR INFORMATION
We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to those employees who have a specific business purpose in utilizing your data. Our employees are trained in the importance of maintaining confidentiality and member privacy. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations and leading industry practices to safeguard your nonpublic personal information.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP PROTECT YOUR PRIVACY
ECCU is committed to protecting the privacy of its members. Members can help by following these simple guidelines:
- Protect your account numbers, access codes, card numbers, personal identification numbers (PINs), and passwords. Never keep your PIN with your debit or credit card, as this could provide access to your accounts if your card is lost or stolen. Never provide your personal information in response to an unsolicited request, whether it is over the phone or over the Internet. If you did not initiate the communication, you should not provide any information.
- Use caution when disclosing your account numbers, Social Security numbers, etc., to other persons. If someone calls you, explains the call is on behalf of the credit union and asks for your account number, you should beware. Official credit union staff will have access to your information and will not need to ask you for it.
- Keep your information with us current. It is important that we have current information on how to contact you. If we detect potentially fraudulent or unauthorized activity on an account, we will attempt to contact you immediately. If your address or phone number changes, please let us know.
If you have questions concerning this notice, please do not hesitate to call us. We are here to serve your financial needs.
